Employment Opportunities and Training
The primary goal of Pet-tential is two-fold: to provide an employment training opportunity for adults with autism while simultaneously making healthy dog treats. Pet-tential is structured to accommodate the needs of the workers by addressing and accommodating unique needs related to structure, sounds, environment, and task set-up and completion. Furthermore, at the end of employment, we strives to help place individuals at a long-term job where they can continue maximizing their “pet-tential.”
Individual Based Labor
One major component of this business is that its employees will be working in areas in which they are not only skilled, but also where they are comfortable and, therefore, can grow and excel. For example, one person may find step-by-step functional tasks such as sorting and counting rewarding and soothing, whereas another might categorize these same tasks as boring and monotonous and prefer working with people in the community. Our program allows each individual to focus on their strengths while simultaneously encouraging flexibility and exposure to new skills.
This program has been designed with the intent to create awareness about adults with autism and other disabilities throughout the community and the world. Our hope is that this program promotes education, compassion, and acceptance of these individuals while showcasing their abundant “pet-tential.”
